How To Raise Arowana Fish From Home

Arowana is a very interesting fish. Many people who raise Arowana as a pet prefer the silver arwana fish. After all, folklore says that acquiring ownership of Aurora brings good luck and can save you from evil spirits. There seem to be great reasons for me to own one of these fish.

The fish has a unique appearance, elongated with a body that is encased in silver scales. The fish is also known for its small head and rigid jaw. This fish is found in many parts of the world such as South America, Africa, Vietnam, Australia and parts of Asia to name a few.

Although arwana is a very beautiful fish, it is a predator. In the wild, aurora eats other fish, insects and even birds. Since the fish literally has the ability to jump out of the water, it can snatch the animal from less hanging tree branches and brushes. As pets, these fish are often known to jump out of their fish tanks. This happens especially when they are overwhelmed by loud noises and other distractions.

Also, due to the aggressive nature of the fish it is known to eat tank mates and even attack other aurora. In other words, it’s hard for these guys to make friends in the fish tank.

These fish are not only tough on their own, but also tough to raise at home. You need a very large tank to catch these fish yourself. Most experts recommend a fish tank that is at least 250 gallons. This is because a full-grown aurora can grow up to 47 inches tall. And having a small tank doesn’t allow them to swim and spin as needed.

Additionally, water, like any fish tank, needs to have the right temperature and the right pH.

Temperatures for aeronautics should be 75 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit (24-30 centigrade) and pH should be kept between 6.5 and 7.5.

Since the fish is aggressive, it can be difficult to add other fish to the fish tank. However, it is possible to find mates in the tank for fish. For example, sometimes Oscar, Jack Dempsey fish and catfish can work. That said, there are no guarantees due to the aggressive nature of the fish.

Raising Silver Arrowana from home can be challenging, proper care is essential to succeed. But raising these can also be a very rewarding hobby.
